Submit a Story

The first thing to do is to log into the dashboard via the following link:

From the dashboard, you can start posting your story right away by clicking on the “Add New” link in the “Posts” section on the left hand side:

You’ll see, in the above example, that we have already inserted a title. If possible, please also include your name in the “Title” bar – if there is not enough room, please include your name at the top of your story, especially if you have not created a profile. Next, you can cut and paste your story into the “Post” box (you can cut and paste directly from Microsoft Word or whatever word processing programme you are using):

You’ll see that in the above example, I have pasted in some text directly from Microsoft Word. Please remember that the story you are posting is going on the internet, so it should have single line spacing not double line spacing – if your story has double line spacing, then your readers will have to scroll down the page a lot more! Once you have pasted in your text, you can save your work thus far by clicking on the “Save” button on the right hand side. You may then notice some differences to the formatting of your text.  You’ll see that the text in the first line has gotten smaller, and also that the font has changed. These format changes are automatic, and are designed to ensure that all stories on the site look consistent. Some formatting from your original story will survive, such as bold/italics/underlining and hyperlinks.

Please note that the “Save Draft” button will only work if you change the status of your story to “draft” before you start working on it. To do this, click on the “Status: Edit” button:

Then choose “Draft” from the drop-down menu and click “Ok”:

After you’ve made a significant change to your story, always remember to click the “Save” button on the right hand side:

Don’t be alarmed if the “Post” box suddenly shows your story in html code -

Once you have logged in, you will be transferred to the dashboard. From here, you can start posting your story right away by clicking on the “Write a New Post” button on the right hand side:

- this is just a temporary transition stage in the saving of your story.

Once you’re happy with the way the story looks in your “Post” box, and you have saved the story, you can check how your story will look on the site by clicking the “Preview this Post” button at the top right hand side:

This will open up a new window in your internet browser.

Once you are satisfied with how your story looks, you can post it by clicking the “Publish” button on the right hand side:

You can then view your short story by clicking here, or via the “Recent Stories” section in the right hand column. Remember to save your story before doing this if you have not already done so.

If you want to edit your short story further, go to the Authortrek Short Stories homepage, and click on the “Site Admin” link on the right hand side – this will then take you back to the dashboard.
