Dan Fante is the author of the short story anthology "Corksucker: Cab Driver Stories from the LA Streets" (published in the US as “Short Dog: Cab Driver Stories from the L. A. Streets. He is the son of the American author and screenwriter, John Fante, although some critics believe Dan Fante to be a better writer than his father. Dan was born and raised in LA. At 20, he left college and hit the road, eventually ending up in New York, where he lived for 12 years. Dan has had many jobs over the years, including cab driving, washing windows, selling door to door, and a stint as a private investigator. Dan Fante is the author of 3 semi-autobiographical novels: "Chump Change" (1998), "Mooch" (2001), and "Spitting Off Tall Buildings" (2001). His poetry has also been collected in "A Gin Pissing Raw Meat Dual Carburetor V8 Son Of A Bitch From Los Angeles" (2001). He began writing poetry while without his computer on a book tour in Italy. Danny De Vito is turning "Mooch" into a movie. Dan Fante's play "The Closer" was number 1 on the Los Angeles Times' list of the Most Notable Plays of the Year. Dan Fante's life provides much inspiration for his writing, whether it be his sometimes difficult relationship with his father, the years he spent addicted to drugs and alcohol, his various relationships with women (with 3 marriages), or some of his more down-at-heel jobs.
