What’s your submission policy?

Review copies, press releases, and catalogues are welcome from trade publishers to:

Authortrek, PO Box 54168, London, W5 9EE

We will of course notify the relevant publicist whenever Authortrek puts up a review.  We regret that we cannot review self-published books, but self-published authors can get some free publicity from Authortrek as we now publish short stories online, so you could also get some free publicity by submitting a short story to usBack to top

How did Authortrek get its name?

Authortrek first started off in booklet format in 1998. At that time, the booklet was called “Genre”. When the booklet was moved to the internet, the editor decided on a change, as the name was – well – too generic.  In choosing the new name, the editor wanted to convey that the site was keen to discover new authors, and that it often “walked in the footsteps” of authors in a bid to find out how their books work. This has led to a series of in-depth readers guides for prominent novels. Authortrek also hyperlinks to the best websites for authors, so that readers are not faced with a long trawl through search engines to find the information they want.

What’s your privacy policy?

If you submit your email address to us, we will not pass or sell your email address onto other companies. We will only use your email address to send you information that you have specifically requested, or if you are an author, we may email you to invite you to participate in the programmes that we provide to give you free publicity. Authors who choose to submit themselves to the Authortrek directory have the option to choose whether their email address is published online.

Some of your webpages are quite large.  How can I navigate around them without scrolling too much?

We are utilising hyperlinked bookmarks to ease navigation. These bookmarks will be placed at regular intervals in order to achieve this.

Your site map is very sparse. Why is this?

We want to keep the structure of Authortrek quite simple. A lot of site maps from other companies are very complex, and this reflects the fact that many of them start new businesses in every quarter. We at Authortrek believe that while this aids innovation, it can also lead to bigger companies losing their focus on their original core business. Authortrek’s interests are much more focused and specialised, and our site map reflects this.

Why don’t you list authors by genre?

We did this when we first started out, and discovered that it added unnecessary complexity to the site. Besides, many authors do not fall into a particular genre, and find it quite restrictive when they are placed in such genres by their publishers and booksellers.

Authortrek regularly promotes good new authors who you may not have heard of from all genres.

Why don’t you list all the books you cover in an index like the author index?

We don’t want to make the structure of the site too complex, and more information about particular books can be found on the author’s page. For this reason, we are no longer going to maintain the index pages, as you can quickly find out about individual titles via our internal search engine, which is found at the top of every page.

I am having a problem with an order I placed through one of the adverts on Authortrek.  Can you assist?

If you are having problems with an item that you have bought directly from Authortrek.com, please contact us at editor@authortrek.com, and we will try to resolve the problem as soon as possible.  If you are having problems with an Authortrek item archived on Lulu.com, contact Lulu.com in the first instance, and send us a copy of the email – if the fault is ours’, we will try to fix it as soon as possible. All other companies that we have affiliated to, such as Amazon, have strict privacy policies, so we have no knowledge of individual orders placed through adverts on Authortrek. We advise you to contact the advertiser’s customer service department for assistance. Back to top

I need to contact one of the authors on your site. Can you help?

Authortrek profiles many authors, but we are not in direct contact with the authors and cannot contact them on your behalf.  If the author has his or her own webpage, then we will provide a link to it on our profile of an author.  We are not agents for the authors we cover, and we only attend signings/literary events that have been arranged by others. It is unlikely that we will be able to persuade authors to attend any other literary events. The majority of authors can be contacted via their publishers, whose details can be found online in most instances. Back to top

I am doing an essay on one of the authors covered by Authortrek. Can you assist?

Authortrek currently has a very small staff, and we are constantly busy. We do try to provide comprehensive coverage for every author, and if your request highlights a gap in the information you provide, then we will consider doing further research and adding the results at a later date. However, we will be unlikely to get around to doing this by your essay’s deadline. Back to top

I have written an unpublished short story/novel. How can I get published by you?

If you’re interested in being published by us, then you should submit a short story to Authortrek Short Stories.  If your story gets 30 votes, then we may publish the story in an anthology. If your story gets 100 votes, then you’ll be asked to submit a novel.  However, the decision to publish said novel would be at our discretion. Back to top

I need an agent. Do you know any?

Although we often attend literary events, we rarely plug new authors to any agents we meet. We recommend that you consult The Writers and Artists Yearbook for the contact details of agents. Back to top
